(11 hrs) Anchored out at Buck Island,North Carolina Nov 12 2022 Read the following like the night before Christmas Original story by Brian Totally revised by Wendy Incident at Buck Island 11/13/2022 Just off of Buck Island, we had dropped anchor for the night, we had arrived in the dark, which was a terrible fright. Down in the stateroom, we were warm in our bed, With the worries of the day, being erased from our heads. We were suddenly awakened before the morning sunrise, Shaking our heads and trying to open our eyes. The boat was rocking, and there was such a clatter, the captain sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. The wind was a howling and rain coming down, It was still dark, and we couldn't see what was all around. The wind was so scary, and the rain coming down in sheets, the boat and the anchor had drifted some five-hundred fifty feet. The boat finally stopped rocking and came to a rest, we had drifted into a marshy grass mound, like a bird in a nest. The captain started the generator just before daylight, pacing the floor and muttering, 'this just ain't right.' He made coffee for himself and his one lady crew, then they sat down and tried to decide what to do. As the morning darkness started to wane, the captain grabbed his gear and went out into the rain. He started the engines, and the anchor was raised, off they went as they groaned , "it's gonna be one of those days!" Destination: Buck Island, NC Departure:Norfolk, VA Travel time 9:55am to 7:35pm. Departure: Atlantic City New Jersey Destination: Breakwater Harbor Lewes, Delaware Travel time 7:450am to 2:45pm ish. (7 hrs) Location anchored in Atlantic City Inlet New Jersey Coast. (Off Harrahs and HardRock Casinos) Nov 2 2022 We made better time than planned, so we by passed Barnegat Inlet and continued on to Atlantic City. Arrived after dark and anchored just out of the channel. So earlier just before Barnegat Inlet, we switched pilots from Wendy to me, moments later I thought the waves in front of us looked weird, then I thought I saw a blow spout, Wendy rushed to the window and confirmed. Suddenly water around boat was bubbling with blow spouts and the depth sounder went bouncing from 59 feet to 18 feet then 59 and 21. We passed over at 4 or 5 whales directly under the boat. Next morning there was a speed warning of 10 knots or less on the NOAA weather radio for the mid to southern New Jersey coast because of Right Whales in the area. Not a problem as we can't maintain 9 knots lol. Destination: Atlantic City New Jersey Departure: Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor Marina Travel time 8:00am to 7:30pm ish. Minisceongo Yacht Club Oct 26 2022 A good day, of course this picture in Minisceongo Yacht Club says it all, dark clouds to the left, beautiful day to the right. Woke up to fog in Kingston City Marina, didn't clear out when we left (I finished yesterday in the fog so figured what the heck fog wasn't too bad 100 to 300 foot visablilty and only barges with tugs and crazy me on the river lol), after a pump out we were on our way in the fog around 9:51am. Traveling south against the incoming tide and north winds again, barely made 7.25 mph for most of the way. After the high tide peaked we were doing 9.5 mph, then 10.5 mph all the way to Minisceongo Yacht Club in Stony Point Bay. What a beautiful place, looks brand new. Destination: Minisceongo Yacht Club Departure: Kingston City Marina Travel time 9:51am to 4:50pm ish. (6.0 hrs) Location Kingston City Marina Oct 25 2022 What a long day. Woke up to fog in Coeymans, didn't clear out until 10:00-10:30am. But then we were at a really low tide only 6" between the boat and the river bottom, had to wait for the tide to come in a little to leave the marina. Traveling south against the incoming tide and north winds, barely made 7.25 mph for most of the way. After the high tide peaked we were doing 9.5 mph, then 10.5 mph just in time to run into fog at the Kingston-Rhinebeck bridge and all the way to Kingston City Marina.
